RISE Conference: Reaching for Innovation, Strengthening Education
Education and Professional Development Conference
In its decade of existence, for seven years in New York as WNET’s Celebration of Teaching & Learning and for three years under the auspices of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in Washington, D.C., the Teaching & Learning (T&L) conference offered the national education community a unique opportunity to both celebrate teaching and advance the profession to benefit all students. One of the premier annual education conferences in the country, T&L brought together every year thousands of teachers, administrators, policymakers, researchers, college faculty, and others who care about education from all 50 states and nearly 20 countries to explore ways to shape the education profession in bold and innovative ways.
RISE reaches far beyond the K-12 world to feature speakers from a broad range of professions, including hundreds of luminaries from the education community including:
Bill Gates, who talked about the Common Core and engaged in a Q&A with George Stephanopoulos
Former U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, who unveiled the Teach to Lead national initiative at T&L 2014, and came back a year later to provide an update on its progress
Pulitzer Prize-winning historians, such as Doris Kearns Goodwin and James McPherson
Talented musicians and entertainers, including Queen Latifah and Bobby McFerrin
RISE attendees will include teachers, school staff, administrators, community leaders and policy makers from across the country.
Thursday preconference educational sessions will be offered in locations around Detroit, including museums, local schools and other attractions ensuring visitors can make the most of their visit to America’s Comeback City. In addition to access to a multitude of education-focused exhibitors and networking meals, participants will be offered a full agenda including featured speakers, workshops, and keynotes covering:
STEM and the Workforce
School Safety & Climate
Community & School Partnerships
